Flahavan is committed to sustainable production that protects the environment and our community. We burn the outer shell of the oat to fuel the boiler which generates steam used in the cooking process of the oats. We also use water from the original millstream at the River Mahon to generate electricity to help power the mill.

Beta-glucan is a soluble fibre found in oats and some other foods. Regular consumption of beta-glucan as part of a varied, balanced diet and healthy lifestyle can contribute to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. Each serving (40g) contains one third of the 3g of beta-glucan suggested per day to help maintain normal cholesterol levels.

Oats are a source of wholegrain goodness that are high in fibre and protein and naturally low in sugar, salt and saturated fat. Oats are also a source of protein and iron.

Our Pinhead Oatmeal

Flahavan’s Pinhead Oatmeal is a chopped wholegrain oat, suitable as a more traditional porridge or ideal as an ingredient in home baking. Pinhead Oatmeal can be added to Brown Bread, Biscuits, Soups and many other recipes to add that extra bit of texture and ”bite”.

Cooking Instructions

Instructions: (Serves 4).
Stir one cup (160g) of Flahavan’s Pinhead Oatmeal into 3 1/2 cups (750mls) of cold water or milk. Bring to the boil, reduce heat to a simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cooking time may vary depending on the texture required. Cooking time will be reduced to around 20 minutes if the Oatmeal is soaked overnight.
